Volleyball: WVU Set for Final Road Trip

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University volleyball team is set for its final road trip of the 2010 season with matches at Marquette at 8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 29, and at Syracuse at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 31.
The Mountaineers enter play with a 14-10 (4-4 BIG EAST) record after falling to Villanova last week in three sets.
Senior middle blocker Lauren Evans continues to lead the Mountaineers this season with 219 kills and a .306 hitting percentage, while also posting a team-high 71 blocks.
As a team, WVU is No. 1 in the conference and No. 5 in the NCAA with 1515 digs and an average of 18.49 per set. Senior libero Bonnie West leads the team with 413 digs this season.
The Golden Eagles are 15-7 (6-2 BIG EAST) and are riding an eight-match win streak, after posting wins over DePaul (3-1) and Notre Dame (3-2) last weekend.
Junior outside hitter Ashley Beyer was named the BIG EAST Player of the Week on Monday for posting two-consecutive double-doubles. Against DePaul, Beyer posted 16 kills and 13 digs. She then recorded 21 kills and 14 digs as the Golden Eagles defeated the Irish on their home court.
Syracuse is 21-5 (3-5 BIG EAST) after falling to DePaul in a 2-3 match last weekend.
Despite the loss, senior outside hitter Hayley Todd tied her career-best kill record with 21, while junior outside hitter Noemie Lefebvre finished with 15 kills and 17 digs.
On the season, Lefebvre leads the Orange in both kills and digs with 304 and 266, respectively.
WVU is 17-14 all-time against this weekend’s opponents, with a 4-3 record over Marquette and a 13-11 edge over Syracuse. Last season, the Mountaineers fell to the Orange and defeated the Golden Eagles in Morgantown.
