Rifle: Campriani Takes Second

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University senior Nicco Campriani finished second in air rifle this afternoon at the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup Final, in Munich, Germany.
The reigning air rifle world champion finished with a final score of 698.7. Russia’s Denis Sokolov won the discipline with a score of 701.5, while Hungary’s Peter Sidi shot a combined total of 698.3 and finished in third place.
Campriani, a native of Florence, Italy, entered the final round in second place after shooting a qualifying score of 596 (99, 100, 97, 100, 100, 100), one shot short of Sokolov’s qualifying score. Despite shooting a perfect 10.9 in the final’s ninth frame, Campriani could not overcome Sokolov’s lead and fell, 104.5-102.7.
Campriani entered today’s match strong, having captured the air rifle title at the 50th ISSF World Championship on July 31, in Munich. The two-time National Rifle Association first team All-American won the title with a combined final score of 702.5. Sidi finished second in the discipline at the world championship, while Sokolov placed sixth.
The ISSF World Cup Final continues tomorrow with the men’s 50m rifle prone.
