MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia University men’s soccer team will face Seton Hall on Saturday, Oct. 23, at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium. Kickoff on “Senior Night” is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
“We are two teams playing for two different things,” coach Marlon LeBlanc said. “Seton Hall is playing to get into the BIG EAST tournament and we are trying to do a couple of things to solidify our spot, but also continue to play ourselves into a chance at a first or second seed in the tournament.”
Prior to the start of the match, WVU will honor senior three student-athletes – Dan Hagey, Zach Johnson and Alex Silva.
WVU enters Saturday with a 7-5-2 overall mark, including a 3-3-0 record in BIG EAST play.
The Mountaineers lost their last time out, falling 2-0 on Oct. 19 to No. 5 Connecticut. Johnson made four saves in the loss, while sophomore Peabo Doue led both teams with four shots. UConn out-shot the Mountaineers, 17-14, while West Virginia held the corner kick edge at 10-5.
Doue leads the team with five goals, while junior Franck Tayou is right behind with four goals. Doue is also leading the teams in points (13), while sophomores Shadow Sebele and Uwem Etuk each have five assists. Sebele also ranks first on the team in shots (43) and shots on-goal (17).

Johnson has started all 14 contests, owning an 0.88 goals-against average in 1,326 minutes, and making 41 saves. Johnson is only two shutouts away from tying Nick Noble for most shutouts in a career at WVU (37). Johnson is 197 minutes from breaking the all-time minutes played record (7,156), also set by Noble.
Seton Hall comes to Morgantown with a 3-10-1 overall record, including a 0-6-0 mark in the BIG EAST.
“They are a team that can come out and score goals in bunches. Brayan Martinez is a superstar who can easily break you down if you are not organized,” LeBlanc said. “Andrew Welker and Steven Rose are primetime players on the field for them as well. Results have been difficult to come by for them this year, but that happens when you play a good schedule.”
In their last game, the Pirates fell to Notre Dame, 3-1, on Oct. 19 at home. Seton Hall has lost their last five games.
Offensively, Steven Rose and Brayan Martinez lead the teams with five goals apiece, while Rose also leads in points (12). Dritan Sela and Adriano Gabriele each have three assists. Sela has also taken the most shots (32) and shots on-goal (13).
Collectively, Seton Hall’s opponents are outshooting them, 235-174, and opponents have a 95-77 corner kick advantage. Opponents are averaging two goals and 17 shots per game against Seton Hall, and have taken 119 shots on-goal.

Seton Hall is under the guidance of 23rd-year coach Manfred Schellscheidt, who owns a 218-147-39 record with the program.
