MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University swimming and diving teams will open the 2010 portion of its schedule on Saturday, Jan. 9, when the Mountaineers entertain Pitt.
The meet will take place at 11 a.m. at the WVU Natatorium. Admission is free.
The WVU men’s and women’s teams are each receiving votes in the College Swimming Coaches Association (CSCAA) Top 25 rankings and the men sport a 2-2 dual meet record, while the women come in at 3-4 overall. Both squads had third-place finishes at the Ohio State Invitational from Dec. 3-6.
“After a cold, but great training camp, the teams are excited to race against Pitt,” coach Vic Riggs says. “It is always a great meet and after narrow losses last year we are ready to give it our best.”
Pitt, who is also receiving votes in the CSCAA Top 25 rankings, comes to town with the men having a 2-2 dual meet record and the women currently 3-1.
West Virginia fell to Pitt last season with the men dropping a 155.5-144.5 decision and the women losing 166.5-131.5.
“The Pitt meet is the first of three very good meets for us to get ready for the BIG EAST Championships,” Riggs says. “Having this one at home to start is important. I know though that Pitt will be ready and it will be a hard fought meet for both teams.”
