MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University track and field team is ranked No. 22 in the preseason poll announced by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
“Early season rankings are a tribute to our coaches and student athletes’ hard work over the last few years,” coach Sean Cleary says. “We need to continue this effort to remain among the nation’s elite.”
The Mountaineers are one of two BIG EAST teams in the top 25, with Connecticut ranked at No. 14. Texas A&M, Oregon, LSU, Florida State and BYU round out the top five.
In its first meet of the season, WVU had a good showing at the Holiday Classic as six student-athletes met conference qualifying standards.
WVU is set to return to action on Saturday, Jan. 16, as it travels to University Park, Md., for the Penn State National Challenge.
