Today we woke up to a very cold and windy morning here in Cocoa Beach. About 9:30 a.m. we started an entertaining competition of 50’s that lasted about an hour. The 50’s were fun to watch because everyone did each stroke and we could laugh at the non-stroke swimmers trying to just finish a 50. It was funny to look around the pool and see all the Louisville and West Virginia swimmers scrunched into the side lanes, shoulders under the surface, trying to keep warm from the brisk winds!
After the meet a group of the team traveled with Coach Vic and Damion for an afternoon at Cape Canaveral. The rest of the team could be found back at the hotel either having a much needed afternoon nap, or relaxing by the pool. The group of people kicking it at the pool had to endure some more cold winds. However, all were basking in the sun, soaking up some rays and enjoying the warmth of the sun in between the small gusts of wind that were slowly dying down. I know myself, as well as some of the others, found themselves a little sunburned by the end of the afternoon! A very entertaining game of marco polo was also being played by a few of the guys on the team until too many “fish out of waters” were called and the game died down. The weather feigned a little too chilly to enjoy the beach and the ocean, but some members of the team strolled along the ocean line for enjoyment.
For dinner, a bunch of the girls threw together a small dinner at a restaurant next door to our hotel called “The Shark Pit.” The food was very good with a lot of dishes to choose from, but the most entertaining part of the restaurant was the large cylindrical aquarium that could be seen from any part of the building! The aquarium was huge and contained a reef with many colorful and unique saltwater fish. The star of the tank was the 3 foot shark that was continuously swimming in circles with the other little fishies following him around. Although the day was a little too cold for our liking while in Florida, the day was very successful and all enjoyed the afternoon off to just relax!
