MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University swimming and diving teams will play host Virginia Tech and Duquesne in a double dual meet on Saturday, Jan. 30, in the WVU Natatorium. The meet is scheduled to begin at noon.
“I’m looking forward to the opportunity the team has tomorrow,” coach Vic Riggs says. “It is a great meet for us to swim in because it has everything, a top 25 team, senior day and the last meet before BIG EAST. The team is excited and I feel they are ready to swim well.”
The meet will be the last home meet for seniors Kayla Andrews, Morgan Callaway, Tim Field, Justin Galbreath, Ashley Malik, Shaunna Purtell, Brandon Robinson and Stephanie Shupe. The seniors will be honored in a ceremony before the meet.
West Virginia is coming off a split with Maryland, in which the Mountaineer men defeated the Terrapins, 136-107, while the women fell, 108-133. The Mountaineers had nine athletes record at least one win in the efforts with seniors Kayla Andrews and Brandon Robinson, sophomore Brad Eichenseer and freshman Rachael Burnett all recording two wins apiece.
The Hokie men come in with a record of 6-3 and are ranked No. 24 nationally. Last weekend the men defeated Georgia Tech, 187-111, while losing to No. 15 Florida State, 117-183. The women are ranked No. 20 nationally with a dual-meet record of 8-2. The women swept Georgia Tech and No. 25 Florida State last weekend by scores of 220-78 and 154.5-145.5, respectively.
Duquesne’s men’s team comes to Morgantown with an 8-4 record, having dropped meets to Buffalo, Fordham, Pitt and Cleveland State. The women are 6-7, most recently losing to Pitt, 199.5-60.5.
This will be the last regular season meet for West Virginia and will travel to Pitt for the BIG EAST Championships in February.
