Track: No. 23 WVU Travels to Penn State

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The No. 23 West Virginia University track and field team is set to return to action this weekend with a trip to University Park, Pa., for the Penn State National Invitational at the Horace Ashenfelter III Indoor Track on Jan. 29-30.
One of the largest meets of the indoor season, the Mountaineers are set to face competition from some of the top teams in the country, including No. 6 Penn State, No. 8 Tennessee and No. 21 Connecticut.
Several Mountaineers earned individual national rankings this week by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, including senior All-American Keri Bland, who is currently No. 1 in the mile and No. 17 in the 800-meter run.
Also ranked are seniors Clara Grandt, Marie-Louise Asselin and April Rotilio, who are No. 12 in the 5,000 meter, No. 13 in the 3,000 meter and No. 25 in the 400-meter dash, respectively, while junior Chelsea Carrier is ranked No. 16 in the 60-meter hurdles.
In their last meet atthe WVU State Farm Games, the Mountaineers saw a big improvement in the field events as five BIG EAST qualifying standards were met.
The Mountaineers took the top two spots in the high jump, as junior Katelyn Williams placed first with a conference qualifying mark of 1.75 meters, and Carrier finished second (1.70 meters).
In the long jump, Carrier led the team finishing first (5.77 meters) and sophomore Meghan Mock placed second (5.68 meters), while junior Alexandra Acker took first in the pole vault with a BIG EAST qualifying mark of 3.80 meters.
