MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University’s women’s basketball team (18-2, 5-1) remained at No. 11 in the latest ESPN/USA Today Coaches’ Top 25 poll, released today, receiving 435 points. The Mountaineers also remained ranked No. 16 in the latest Associated Press Poll yesterday.
The ranking continues to tie for the highest in school history. The 2007-08 team reached No. 11 in both polls while the 1991-92 team reached as high as No. 11 in the AP poll.
WVU is joined by three other BIG EAST squads in the Top 25: No. 1 Connecticut, No. 3 Notre Dame and No. 15 Georgetown.
West Virginia (18-2, 5-1) is now tied for the best 20-game start in school history, with the 1991-92 squad, after its 74-66 setback at Notre Dame yesterday. The loss snapped WVU’s 16-game win streak, the second-longest in school history, and longest since 1991-92.
West Virginia returns to action Wednesday, Jan. 27, at 7:00 p.m. when it takes on Seton Hall (8-12, 0-7) at the WVU Coliseum. The contest will air on West Virginia PBS (channel 699 in Morgantown; channel 10 in Charleston/Huntington; channel 203 in Clarksburg/Wheeling/Weirton; and channel 209 in Martinsburg) and will also air on MSN women’s basketball affiliated stations with play-by-play announcer Travis Jones and color commentator Jay Jacobs on the call.
