MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Juniors Amy Bieski and Naja Johnson respectively have been named the East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) Gymnast and Specialist of the Week.
This week’s award is Bieski’s third of her career. The Nanticoke, Pa., native was previously a five-time EAGL Rookie of the Week honoree and has been named the league’s specialist of the week once. Johnson’s recognition is a career first.
The honors, the first of the year for the league, follow strong performances from both Mountaineers’ in WVU’s third-place season-opening showing at Michigan State on Jan. 8. The No. 25 Mountaineers (1-2) scored 191.225 points to the Spartans’ 193.925 and Penn State’s 193.3. WVU earned its win over Western Michigan, who finished fourth with 189.525 points.
Bieski surpassed the 1,000-point plateau on Friday and earned fifth place all-around with a 38.275 score. The team captain’s career point total now stands at 1,007.825.
Bieski paced the Mountaineers in the season opener in two events, as she tied Johnson for fourth place (9.825) on floor and finished seventh on vault (9.75). She also finished seventh on bars (9.675).

Bieski is also ranked in all-around (first in EAGL, third in region), on bars (third in EAGL, ninth in region) and on vault (fifth in EAGL, 13th in region).
WVU continues its season-opening road trip on Saturday, Jan. 16, at Pitt with Kent State at 7 p.m. at the Fitzgerald Field House. The meeting between the Mountaineers and the Panthers will mark the first EAGL action of the season for both teams.
