MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Coach Nikki Izzo-Brown announced the additions of two student-athletes to the West Virginia University women’s soccer team today. Andrea “Drea” Barklage (D/Lake St. Louis, Mo.) and Kristen Worth (M/New Hope, Pa.) have enrolled for the 2010 spring semester at WVU.
“We are very excited about the additions of Drea and Kristen to the Mountaineer soccer program,” says Izzo-Brown. “Both players understand the importance of hard work and we look forward to helping them develop their full potential as student-athletes at West Virginia.”
A native of St. Louis, Mo., Barklage arrives in Morgantown after two seasons at St. Louis University. With the Billikens, she was named a 2009 second team all-Mid-Atlantic region selection by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) and a second team all-Atlantic 10 performer. In 38 career matches, Barklage compiled seven goals and three assists for 15 points.
A four-year all-state selection at Incarnate Word Academy, Barklage guided her teams to state runner-up finishes in 2005 and 2007. She was named the 2008 Player of the Year by the Missouri High School Soccer Coaches Association (MHSSCA) and by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. As a senior, Barklage led Incarnate Word to the 2008 state title and a 20-1 record. She was named the 2007 MHSSCA Defensive Player of the Year while being named first team all-metro in her final three seasons.
Barklage is a member of the Region II Olympic Development Program team, earning all-region honors in 2008. She played club soccer for the St. Louis Soccer Club with current Mountaineers Morgan Betscher and Blake Miller. Her teams won state cup championships in 2003, 2005-2007 and a national championship 2005 where she was named the club’s Player of the Year. Barklage was named an NSCAA Youth All-American in 2007.
A native of New Hope, Pa., Worth begins her first season of collegiate soccer after a standout career at New Hope-Solebury High. Worth was named team captain and started all four years on the pitch. Her 2006 and 2009 teams won the Bicentennial Athletic League and she was named the league’s Most Valuable Player. An all-state selection as a senior, Worth was named first team all-league in each of her four seasons. Worth scored a pair of goals in leading her team to the district I championship in 2009, New Hope’s second district title in three years.
Worth also played basketball, tennis and ran cross country for New Hope-Solebury. She played club soccer for Arsenal World Class, one of New Jersey’s top youth programs.
