What happened to the Let’s Go Mountaineer cheer? Just like the Frisbee dog that used to entertain fans at halftime, the old Let’s Go Mountaineer cheer of the past was one of the great traditions at Mountaineer Field. Sadly, it has been cast aside.
Well, Jay Redmond wants to change that.
Jay was raised on Mountaineer football and he longs for the day when the stadium once again reverberates with the rhythmic sound of Let’s Goooooooo Mountaineers!
For us 40-somethings, it was the first cheer we ever learned when we first began going to football games at the old stadium. When done correctly, the cheer rattled your fillings.
And just like my old dentist, Jay has touched a raw nerve here. With Tony Caridi’s persuasive powers, and the modern miracle of social media, we have received messages from coast to coast from Mountaineer fans of all ages wanting to know when it stopped, and more importantly, why it stopped.
The younger fans? They just want to know how to do it.
So without further delay, Jay is going to explain to you graybeards why he believes the cheer died, what Mountaineer Nation can do to revive it at home football games, and for you younger fans, simply how to do it.
Take Jay’s demonstration and circulate it to all of your friends and family members on your Facebook, MySpace and YouTube pages. Let’s get Milan Puskar Stadium rocking with one of the great, traditional cheers in all of college football!
Let’s Gooooooo Mountaineers!
