Volleyball: Mountaineers Set to Face Marshall

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University volleyball team is set to return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 24, with a 7 p.m. match against Marshall, at the Cam Henderson Center in Huntington, W.Va.
The Mountaineers improved to 10-4 on the season after going 3-1 at the WVU Invitational with a first-place finish. WVU posted wins over Wright State (3-2), Princeton (3-1) and George Mason (3-2), before falling to Duquesne (1-3).
Junior outside hitter Lauren Evans once again led the team with 55 kills, 16 blocks and eight service aces, while being named tournament MVP. During the match with George Mason, Evans posted a season-high 16 kills with an outstanding .536 hitting percentage. Junior libero Bonnie West also had a good weekend as she posted 101 digs, including a career-high 38 against Princeton.
This season, the Herd is 12-2 after a 3-1 victory over East Carolina. Junior Elizabeth Herman led the squad with 16 kills and a .469 attacking percent.
The Mountaineers are looking to bounce back against the Herd, after falling 3-2 last season. Marshall currently holds a 27-15 advantage in the all-time series. The last time WVU beat the Herd was in 2001.
