MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia women’s soccer player Blake Miller has been named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday afternoon.
Miller provided a one-goal, one-assist night in leading 14th-ranked WVU past fifth-ranked Penn State on Aug. 29. The St. Louis, Mo., native attempted a team-high four shots in only 59 minutes. The forward’s goal in the 58th minute against two-time All-American goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher of Penn State was the game-winner - the first of the season for Miller and seventh of her career.
The one-goal, one-assist effort was the second of Miller’s career. The Mountaineers are 10-0-1 all-time when the sophomore scores a goal in a match.
Miller is the second Mountaineer to earn a BIG EAST weekly honor this season, as teammate Kerri Butler was named the league’s goalkeeper of the week on Aug. 24.
