Volleyball: WVU Falls to Oakland

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University volleyball team fell this evening to Oakland, in its first match of the WVU Classic.
The Golden Grizzles (1-0) defeated the Mountaineers (0-1) in a 3-0 (25-20, 25-19, 25-23) match.
The Mountaineers battled throughout the third game, tying with the Golden Grizzles on five different occasions. Down 15-19, a kill from senior right side hitter Abby Raines rallied the Mountaineers back to tie the game at 22. However, despite their best efforts, the Golden Grizzles held on to the lead and ended the match after a kill from senior Adrienne Leone.
Raines led the Mountaineers with a double-double, as she recorded 10 kills and 10 digs, with a .212 hitting percentage. Sophomore setter Kari Post also had a good match as she landed 27 assists and a team-high 11 digs.
The WVU Classic resumes tomorrow with an 11 a.m. match between Saint Francis, Pa., and Oakland. WVU is set to return to action following that match with a 1:30 p.m. match against Towson, followed by a 7 p.m. match against Saint Francis, Pa.
Earlier in the evening Towson defeated the Red Flash 3-1.
