The Mountaineers’ season-opening match on Sept. 4 comes against UC-Santa Barbara, ranked No. 16 in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America and Soccer America polls, in WVU’s first contest in the annual WVU/NIKE Classic, presented by Jerseys Subs. Kickoff at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium is scheduled for 8 p.m., and fans attending the game can pick up a free 2009 WVU men’s soccer poster featuring Zach Johnson, Alex Silva, Dan Hagey, Adam Mills and Ruben Garrido.
The Mountaineers have three matches tabbed as “Dollar Night,” with all tickets, hot dogs, popcorn and Coca-Colas available for purchase for just one dollar each. The following contests have been tabbed as “Dollar Night” – Sept. 25 against USF, 8 p.m.; Oct. 9 against Connecticut, 8 p.m.; Oct. 28 against Providence, 7 p.m.
The match against UConn, which will be televised nationally on Fox Soccer Channel, also will be high school night. High school teams interested in attending the contest should download and complete the form (click here).
WVU’s final home match on Oct. 28 against Providence also will serve as “Senior Night.” The Mountaineers will honor their three seniors – Jason Bristol, Ryan Gillespie and Gift Maworere – prior to the match as part of the evening’s festivities.
At the conclusion of the regular season, Morgantown and Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium will be the host to the 2009 BIG EAST Men’s Soccer Championship. The semifinal matches will take place on Nov. 13, with the title match scheduled for Nov. 15.
