Women's Soccer: WVU Ranked No. 14/17

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University women’s soccer team earned a No. 14 ranking in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Top 25, and a spot at No. 17 in the Soccer America Top 25, in today’s nationally released polls.
The Mountaineers find themselves at No. 2 in the NSCAA regional rankings, also released today for the first time. WVU, previously a member of the Mid-Atlantic region, now falls under the Northeast region. Notre Dame checks in at No. 1 in the region.
The change in regions reflect the new realignment establish by the NCAA in the offseason. The Northeast Region consists of 46 teams from the following four conferences: BIG EAST (16), America East (9), Metro Atlantic (10) and Northeast (11).
Three WVU opponents are ranked in the NSCAA Top 10: Notre Dame (No. 2), Penn State (No. 8) and Virginia (No. 10).
West Virginia returns to action Aug. 29-31 with a trip to University Park, Pa., to take part in the Penn State Invitational. WVU battles No. 8 Penn State on Saturday, Aug. 29 at 7:30 p.m. Next is a noon match against BYU on Monday Aug. 31.
