Men's Soccer: Exhibition Versus Michigan on Sunday

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University men’s soccer team will play its first exhibition on Sunday, Aug. 23, against Big Ten foe Michigan, with kickoff at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium scheduled for 1 p.m.
Admission to the match is free.
WVU returns 13 letterwinners, including 2009 BIG EAST Preseason Goalkeeper of the Year and Preseason all-BIG EAST selection Zach Johnson and 2008 all-BIG EAST Honorable Mention Gift Maworere. The Mountaineers return nine starters and welcome 10 freshmen to this year’s squad. Coach Marlon LeBlanc enters his fourth season with the Mountaineers.
Coached by 10th-year veteran Steve Burns, Michigan returns 16 letterwinners, including senior Mauro Fuzetti, who tallied nine scores and six assists last season. Fuzetti was a 2008 first team all-Big Ten selection. Michigan went 13-6-3 last year, owning a 4-1-1 record in league play.
Following the Mountaineers’ final exhibition on Aug. 29 at Virginia, the squad will officially open their season at home on Sept. 4 with the annual WVU/NIKE Classic, presented by Jerseys Subs. WVU will play 2006 national champion UC-Santa Barbara at 8 p.m.
