Track: Asselin Advances To Finals In Day One

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Marie-Louise Asselin finished fourth in the 5,000-meter semifinal race to qualify for the finals today, as the West Virginia University track and field team concluded day one of the 2009 NCAA Outdoor Championships in Fayetteville, Ark.
Asselin finished second in her heat with a time of 16:17.49 to advance to Friday’s final. The top 16 finishers moved on out of the field of 27.
The race was heavily delayed due to inclement weather.
Lisa Senakiewich of Michigan State finished first with a time of 16:13.69 followed by Oregon’s Nicole Blood (16:15.38) and Iowa State’s Betsy Saina (16:16.70).
In day two of the Championships, Clara Grandt will race in the 10,000-meter final which is set to begin at 8:55 p.m., while Chelsea Carrier will compete in the first round of the 100-meter hurdles at 5:30 p.m.
