MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University rowing team is set to complete its 2009 season with a trip to the Dad Vail Regatta on the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia, Pa.
“Although preparations in our final week of training have been anything but ideal, we're still looking forward to racing this weekend,” Coach Jimmy King says. “This week has been stressful for the girls with finals and moving, and not being able to row on the Mon but once they arrive in Philadelphia, I know they will be able to focus on their final preparations for Friday's race. Through the course of the year our team has proven to be quite resilient, so I have no doubt that all of our crews will give nothing but their absolute best efforts this weekend.”
The Mountaineers enter this weekend after not being able to practice on the Mon River all week due to weather contditions. They will have three boats competing, including the Varsity 8+, the Varsity 2- and the Novice 8+.
In their last trip to the Dad Vail, the Mountaineer Varsity 4+ boat led the team with an overall fourth-place finish (7:26.94), while the Varsity 2- finished fifth in the semi-finals.
The Dad Vail Regatta is the largest collegiate regatta in the United States. The weekend will feature over 100 colleges and universities from across the country and Canada. For more information or up-to-date results visit, http://www.dadvail.org/.
