Rowing: WVU Set to Race at Knecht Cup

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University rowing team is set to continue action with a trip to the Knecht Cup on Friday, April 10, on the Cooper River in Camden, N.J.
The two-day event will provide competition for over 50 schools from California to Maine, Wisconsin to Florida. The Mountaineers will also see competition from BIG EAST foes Pitt and Villanova.
The Mountaineers head into this weekend after playing host to their first-ever home race last weekend on the Monongahela River against Dayton, Duquesne and George Mason. The Varsity 4+ led the team in the event with a first-place finish. The boat of Caroline Rettig, Stephanie Roof, Kathryn Walsh and Keyara Stevenson, with coxswain Gillian Hanbury, crossed the line with a time of 7:06.31 in front of Dayton (7:07.91), George Mason (7:12.33) and Duquesne (7:19.25).
This weekend will mark the eighth time the Mountaineers have traveled to the Knecht Cup since 2002. Last year’s trip was highlighted with two-top finishes in grand finals. The Varsity 4+ boat led with a second-place (7:32.4) finish in the grand finals, while the second Varsity 4+ team placed fifth with a time of (8:20.7).
