MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - As part of their ongoing community service with the American Cancer Society, the West Virginia women’s swimming and diving team held a pool party Saturday, April 4, at the WVU Natatorium for children cancer patients in the state of West Virginia.
“It was a very special night and I would like to thank Mary Lough and the women’s team for making the ACS pool party a success,” Coach Vic Riggs said. “The smiles and excitement in the children’s eyes showed us what we take for granted can mean so much to someone.”
The pool party coincides with the other events that the women’s team has been involved in. Once a month the team has been going to hospitals to visit and do arts and crafts for patients permanently bedridden.
With the success of this event, the team is planning to add another pool party in the fall for cancer patients in West Virginia.
“We had several children who either are cancer survivors or currently receiving cancer treatment traveling great distances to attend the event,” Riggs said. “I believe the furthest to travel was from Logan County.”
The men’s team has also been participating in community services events with their weekly trips to the Morgantown Boys and Girls Club.
