Employment opportunities within the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics at West Virginia University:
SENIOR ASSOCIATE ATHLETIC DIRECTOR FOR BUSINESS OPERATIONS - West Virginia University invites applications for a Senior Associate Athletic Director for Business Operations position. The position will serve as the Chief Financial Officer for the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and oversee all financial operations, inclusive of a $90 million annual budget. Responsibilities include the overall management of the athletic business office which includes all business operations, payroll and benefits, travel, accounts payable, procurement, budget management and control, account reconciliation and inventory control, providing fiscal policy development and implementing operational policies, procedures, practices and standards that ensure optimal efficiencies of the athletic business office, serving as the chief business and financial contact with the WVU Foundation, serving as the contract administer for all insurance agreements. Provide oversight to all insurance requests and payments for medical providers. The position will provide oversight of the department’s equipment unit and information technology in addition to developing the long-term capital plan for intercollegiate athletics and assisting with the deferred maintenance plan for athletic facilities. The position will serve as a contract administrator for specified service contracts with vendors including, merchandising, event staffing, law enforcement services, travel and cleaning services. A master’s degree, preferably in business, finance, or similar field is required in addition to a minimum of ten (10) years senior level experience managing a college, university , conference or professional athletic business office is required.
LEARNING SPECIALIST - West Virginia University invites applications for a Learning Specialist position. The position will be responsible for the assessment and coordination of all aspects of academic services for student-athletes with learning disabilities. Responsibilities include: oversee academic programming for student-athletes identified who have been identified as needing academic accommodations, developing and implementing individualized plans for the development of academic skills, coordinating screening and diagnostic testing of student-athletes, and serving as a liaison between the Student-Athlete Development staff and the Office of Accessibility Services. A master’s degree is required, preferably in education, special education, or related field in addition to a minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience in a secondary or post-secondary educational setting.
ASSISTANT LEARNING SPECIALIST (2 positions available) - West Virginia University invites applications for two Assistant Learning Specialist positions. The positions will provide individuals time management, organization and academic success skills to student-athletes and to facilitate student-athlete’s development as self-regulated learners. Responsibilities include: working with the student on remediation of fundamental skills needed for academic success; providing academic support services with study skills, note taking, time management skills, test-taking strategies and literacy skill development; providing assistance/additional instruction for academic course work to help the student complete assigned coursework independently. A master’s degree, preferably in education, special education, or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required in addition to a minimum of one (1) year of relevant experience in a secondary or high education setting.
STRENGTH COACH - WOMEN'S BASKETBALL - West Virginia University invites applications for a Strength Coach position. The position will oversee the strength and conditioning program for women’s basketball in addition to any varsity sport(s) assigned. Responsibilities include: designing and conducting sport-specific strength and conditioning programs that facilitate maximum benefits for student-athletes, including individualized, comprehensive and year-round programs, assisting with warm-up support, recovery and travel for women’s basketball, supervising and instructing student-athletes and coaches in all aspects of weight training, conditioning and nutrition activities. A master’s degree is required in addition to a minimum of two (2) years of strength and conditioning experience with a proven success rate in the development of student-athletes. Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) or Strength and Conditioning Coach Certified (SCCC) in addition to first aid, AED and CPR certification is required.
