MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia University tennis team fell to Maryland, 7-0, this evening at the Tennis Center in College Park, Md.
“I liked the way we competed at No. 4, 5 and 6 today, and I feel like Olga (Elkin)had a good match at No. 1 with a nationally ranked player,” Coach Marc Walters said. “I think we are getting closer and getting better ever match.”
The Terrapins swept the Mountaineers taking all six singles and all three doubles matches on the evening. In the No. 1 spot, junior Olga Elkin saw a tough match as she fell to Eleanor Peters 6-4, 6-3.
Freshman Katie Haught also put up a valiant effort as she fell to Maggie MacKeever 6-3, 4-6, 10-7 in the No. 4 spot, while freshman Veronica Cardenas fell in a third-set tie breaker, 2-6, 6-2, 11-9, to Lisa Miller, in the No. 6 spot.
“For our first day outside, we did ok,” Walters says. “We are looking forward to a good match tomorrow with Brown."
