Baseball: Buckner Makes BIG EAST Honor Roll

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - Right fielder Grant Buckner of the West Virginia University baseball team became the second Mountaineer to make the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll this season, announced today by the BIG EAST Conference.
Buckner, an Elkview, W.Va., native, is off to a solid start through his first six games. He leads the team with a .458 batting average (11-for-24), which includes seven RBIs, four doubles and seven runs scored.
In WVU’s 11-6 victory over Tennessee last Friday, Buckner went 3-for-5 with two doubles and two runs scored. He followed his team-leading performance with a 2-for-3 effort against No. 18 Coastal Carolina, which included an RBI and a run scored.
The redshirt sophomore finished the week 6-for-11 (.545 average), as he helped lead the Mountaineers to a 2-1 record for the week. Sophomore Jedd Gyorko was also named to the weekly honor roll in week one, giving WVU two honorees through the first two weeks of the season.
