Women's Basketball: Postseason Bound

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- The West Virginia University women’s basketball team was selected for the 48-team postseason WNIT this evening and the Mountaineers will play host to Coppin State in opening round action, Thursday, March 19. Game time will be determined at a later time.
West Virginia (17-14, 5-11) will be meeting Coppin State (14-14, 12-4) for the fifth time in a series that began in 1997 and was last played in 2007, a 54-53 Mountaineer victory. WVU leads the all-time series by a 4-0 count, with every game having been played at the WVU Coliseum.
WVU will be making its third appearance in the postseason WNIT owning a 5-3 overall record in the tournament. West Virginia last participated in the WNIT in 2005, finishing as the national runner-up.
The postseason appearance is the fifth under the direction of Coach Mike Carey and eighth overall for the women’s program in school history.
West Virginia is led by All-BIG EAST Second Team performers Liz Repella and Takisha Granberry. Repella, a Steubenville, Ohio, native, leads the team in scoring (16.2) and rebounding (8.1) while Granberry, a Charlotte, N.C., native, is second on the squad in those categories at 16.1 points and 6.8 rebounds, respectively. Additionally, sophomore Sarah Miles, a San Antonio, Texas, native, and the BIG EAST’s Co-Most Improved Player, averages 12.2 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 2.1 steals per contest.
Tickets for the contest will be $7 for the general public, $5 for youths under the age of 18, and $5 per person for groups of 10 or more. WVU students will be admitted free with a valid student ID and should enter the WVU Coliseum at the Blue Gate. All seating will be general admission.
