MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - West Virginia University sophomore guard Sarah Miles was named the BIG EAST Conference’s Player of the Week, today, after guiding the Mountaineers to their 79-70 upset win at No. 5 Louisville this past Saturday.
In a 1-1 week for the Mountaineers, the San Antonio, Texas, native averaged 21 points, 7.5 rebounds, shot 55 percent from the field and was 10-12 from the foul line.
Miles played an instrumental role in WVU’s win over the nationally ranked Cardinals as she scored 22 points, on 8-13 shooting and 6-6 from the free throw line, with a career-best 10 rebounds. She guided a Mountaineer offense that scored 54 points in the second half alone (Louisville was giving up just 55 points a game prior to playing WVU). The win over No. 5/10 Louisville marked the highest ranked road opponent the Mountaineers have ever defeated and it snapped the Cardinals 19-game home win streak which was the fifth-longest in the nation at the time.
Miles also scored 20 points with five rebounds and four steals in a 55-47 home loss to Seton Hall last week.
Miles and West Virginia (13-9, 2-7) return to action Tuesday, Feb. 10, at 8 p.m. against Providence (9-13, 3-6) at the WVU Coliseum. The contest will be broadcasted on West Virginia PBS.
