MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (February 6, 2009) – West Virginia University men’s soccer player Donald La Guerre has been selected as the 2008-09 BIG EAST Institutional Male Scholar-Athlete, announced today by the league office. La Guerre, a senior, will be awarded $2,000 toward his graduate studies.
A four-year letterwinner for the Mountaineers, La Guerre played in 29 contests throughout his career. The Arima, Trinidad, native was a valuable member of WVU’s back line, especially in 2007 when the team posted a program-high 14 shutouts and allowed only 15 goals through 22 games.
A sport and exercise physiology major, La Guerre earned his way on to the Dean’s List multiple times and was also a member of the Athletic Director’s Academic Honor Roll and was a BIG EAST Academic All-Star. In 2008, he represented WVU at the NCAA Leadership Convention.
One winner is selected from each of the 16 BIG EAST schools with one overall male and female winner earning a $4,000 scholarship. USF’s Zak Boggs was named the BIG EAST Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
