Men's Basketball: Ruoff Earns Academic Honor

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - West Virginia University men’s basketball senior Alex Ruoff has been named to the 2008-09 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District II men’s basketball first team as selected by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America).
It is the third straight year Ruoff has earned district first-team honors. Last year, Ruoff earned third-team Academic All-America honors, one of 15 men's basketball student-athletes to earn national honors.
A history major with a 3.79 GPA, Ruoff is second on the team in scoring at 15.9 points per game. For his career, Ruoff has made 225 3-point field goals, dished out 370 assists and has 174 steals.
Along with Ruoff, Jason Duty of Duquesne, Marquis Hall of Lehigh, Yves Mekongo Mbala of La Salle and Danny Morrissey of Penn State earned all-district first-team honors. Ruoff is the only BIG EAST men’s basketball student-athlete named to any of the eight district teams.
Ruoff, a native of Spring Hill, Fla., is now a candidate for Academic All-America honors.
