Women's Basketball: WVU Hosts Syracuse

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University women’s basketball team will close out the home portion of its season when they host Syracuse on “Senior Day” in a BIG EAST matchup on Saturday, Feb. 27, at the WVU Coliseum.
West Virginia (15-12, 4-10) is coming off a 72-60 loss to No. 15 Pitt in which the Mountaineers were able to keep it close for the majority of the game, before Pitt pulled away late in the second half.
Sophomore Liz Repella led WVU with 17 points while also gathering four rebounds. Two other Mountaineers were also in double-digits with senior Takisha Granberry scoring 16 points on 3- 7 from 3-point range. Freshman Natalie Burton scored 10 points and grabbed six boards.
Syracuse (15-12, 4-10) was last in action on Feb. 24 at Notre Dame where they dropped a 90-79 decision. The Orange are led by senior Chandrea Jones, junior Nicole Michael and sophomore Erica Morrow.
All three average double-digits in points per game for Syracuse with Jones averaging 16.7, Michael at 14.4 and Morrow with 16.1. Jones also averages 8.6 rebounds per game followed by Michael at 8.2.
Against Notre Dame, Morrow drained a team-high 18 points and handed out a team-best six assists. Jones grabbed her 10th double-double of the season with 16 points and 10 rebounds.
The game is scheduled to tip off at 2 p.m. and will be broadcasted on WVPBS. West Virginia will honor its two seniors – Granberry and Ashley Powell before the opening tip.
