Swimming: Day Three Update

INDIANAPOLIS – Update on day three of the BIG EAST Championships after the preliminary round this morning.
Women’s 400 IM Senior Lindsey Largo swam this morning in the 400 IM and finished with a time of 4:21.45. That time landed Largo in the first seed of the consolation finals.
Men’s 400 IM Senior Michael Walker swam to a 3:50.41 NCAA “B” cut time for second place in his heat and will be placed in the second seed tonight in the finals.
Senior Justin Galbreath will have the 10th seed in the consolations tonight after posting a season-best time of 3:57.72 with his third-place finish in his heat.
Junior Jeff Byrd will join Galbreath in the consolation finals after posting a fourth-place finish in his heat with a time of season-best time of 4:00.89.
Women’s 100 Butterfly Senior Natalie Lautzenheiser swam to a first-place finish of 58.76 in the first heat of the 100 fly today.
The junior duo of Stephanie Shupe and Kayla Andrews swam to first and third place, respectively in heat five. Shupe broke her own school record with a time of 54.29 and will be placed in third seed of the finals tonight. Andrews finished at 54.97 and will be the ninth seed in the consolation finals.
Men’s 100 Butterfly Three Mountaineers will swim this evening in the men’s 100 fly. Freshman Martin Vanis swam to fourth place in his heat this morning and finished with a time of 49.31 and will be seeded 14th tonight in the consolations.
Senior Pablo Marmolejo and freshman Brad Eichenseer swam in the same heat this morning with Marmolejo finishing second with a time of 48.54 and Eichenseer finishing fourth at 48.93. Marmolejo will swim in the finals at the five seed tonight with Eichenseer in the ninth seed in the consolations.
Women’s 200 Freestyle The three Mountaineers who swam in the 200 free will all return tonight for the finals. Junior Morgan Callaway finished in first place in her heat with a school record and NCAA “B” cut time of 1:47.44. Callaway will be seeded first in the finals tonight.
Senior Maritza Paredes will also swim tonight in the consolations after swimming in Callaway’s heat as well and swam to eighth place at 1:51.58. Paredes will be seeded 16th in the consolation finals.
Junior Shaunna Purtell continued her successful meet in her heat and placed in third place with a time of 1:49.83. Her season-best time landed her the seventh seed tonight in the finals.
Men’s 200 Freestyle Freshman Taylor Camp will return tonight in the finals after swimming to second place in his heat. The time of 1:38.95 was a season-best and will land him with the eighth seed in the finals.
Women’s 100 Breaststroke Sophomore Maggie Moreland swam in the first heat and had a first-place finish time of 1:08.17, a season-best.
Senior Isabel Perez and freshman Jaryn Studer each swam to eighth-place finishes in their respective heats. Perez swam a time of 1:06.12, while Studer swam 1:06.24.
Men’s 100 Breaststroke Junior George Farquhar and freshman Jack Greenhalgh both swam in the same heat with Farquhar finishing first at 55.32 and Greenhalgh finishing fourth in 57.62. Farquhar will be the fourth seed in the finals tonight, while Greenhalgh will be seeded 13th in the consolations.
Women’s 100 Backstroke Freshman Madison Morrison was the only WVU swimmer in the women’s 100 back and finished sixth in her heat with a time of 1:01.89.
Men’s 100 Backstroke Junior Tim Field will return tonight for the consolation finals seeded 16th.
