Women's Basketball: WVU to Battle Hoyas

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia takes on Georgetown Wednesday night in an important Big East clash in Washington, D.C.
The Mountaineers (14-10, 3-8) are looking for their second conference road victory of the season against a Georgetown team that most recently defeated Providence 57-55 last Saturday in Providence.
The Hoyas (15-10, 5-7) are two spots ahead of West Virginia in the conference standings in 10th place. Georgetown’s five league victories this year have come against Syracuse, St. John’s, USF, Cincinnati and Providence.
Senior guard Karee Houlette scored 12 points in last weekend’s Providence win and leads Georgetown in scoring with an average of 10.3 points per game. Houlette is the team leader in 3-point shooting making 46 triples so far this season.
In conference games Houlette is averaging 14.1 points per game.
Jaleesa Butler, a 6-foot junior forward, is averaging 9.2 points per game overall and 10.9 points per game in conference play.
Georgetown is 8-4 in home games this year.
West Virginia has a 3-5 road record this year that includes a 79-70 victory at then-fifth-ranked Louisville Feb. 7.
Sophomore Liz Repella is the team leader in scoring (15.6 ppg.) and rebounding (8.1 rpg.). She is also second on the team in 3-point shooting with 46 3s.
Senior Takisha Granberry shows averages of 15.4 points and 7.1 rebounds per game, while sophomore Sarah Miles is averaging 12.7 points and has a team-leading 53 steals.
West Virginia’s only win at Georgetown came in 2007 when the Mountaineers claimed a 69-47 decision. Georgetown is 7-1 overall against West Virginia in Washington, D.C. WVU has won the last four meetings against the Hoyas – all by double-digit margins.
