Rifle: Kulbacki Takes Junior Title

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Sophomore Michael Kulbacki shot a final score of 696.1 to finish first in the junior division of the men’s 10m air rifle championship at the 2009 USA Shooting Winter Airgun Championship yesterday at the U.S. Olympic Training Center (OTC) in Colorado Springs, Colo.
The DuBois, Pa., native shot 591 in the qualifying match before recording a 97.8 score in the final match for his overall score.
“Mike really shot well,” fourth-year coach Jon Hammond said. “This was a good result for him, and the confidence-boost should prove vital during the second-half of our season.”
Junior Nicco Campriani shot the highest visitor score, shooting 595 in the qualifying match and 101.1 in the finals for a 696.1 overall score.
Senior Bryant Wallizer shot 589 and finished 14th overall, while junior Andy Lamson shot 585 to finish seventh in the junior division and 21st overall.
Junior Tommy Santelli shot 575 and finished 43rd.
The Mountaineers continue to compete in the championship today, with the three-day event set to conclude tomorrow.
