Women's Basketball: WVU To Play Longwood

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University’s women’s basketball team continues its seven game non-conference homestand when it plays host to Longwood, Saturday, Dec. 12, at 2 p.m., at the WVU Coliseum.
West Virginia (8-1) and Longwood (2-7) will be meeting for the third time in a series that began in 2004 and was last played a year ago. WVU leads the series by a 2-0 margin, with both wins coming at home, including a 76-51 victory last year and an 81-52 win in 2004. In last year’s win, junior guards Sarah Miles and Liz Repella combined for 41 of WVU’s 76 total points.
The Mountaineers have won six-straight contests after posting a 60-40 victory over Eastern Kentucky this past Tuesday. Repella leads the team with a 14.1 points per game average while freshman center Asya Bussie is second on the squad averaging 13.3 points. Miles is tops in the BIG EAST in both assists (6.9) and steals (3.4).
WVU is shooting 44.0% from the field so far this season and averaging 69.2 points per contest.
Longwood (2-7) is led by freshman guard/forward Chelsea Coward and her 10.3 points per game average. The Lancers have lost three-straight contests entering the matchup with the Mountaineers and are averaging 61 points per game as a team.
The contest will be broadcast on MSN women’s basketball affiliated stations with play-by-play announcer Travis Jones and color commentator Jay Jacobs on the call.
