MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University swimming and diving teams will start BIG EAST competition this weekend when they host Cincinnati on Friday, Nov. 6, and Louisville on Saturday, Nov. 7. Both meets will be held in the WVU Natatorium and will start at 5 p.m. and 10 a.m., respectively.
“As we enter the heart of our dual meet season, our next four meets come against BIG EAST schools,” coach Vic Riggs says. “It should be a very exciting weekend of swimming, and I think we have a great opportunity in front of us to compete against some of the best teams in the conference.”
So far this season, the West Virginia men (0-1) dropped a meet to Penn State, while the women (2-1) have defeated Marshall and Colgate and lost to Penn State.
Cincinnati (men 1-0, women 1-0) defeated Xavier in the 2009 Crosstown Splashdown. The Bearcats were led by Stephanie Conklin, Lange Gilby, Liz Hansson, Jeremy Peter, Josh Schneider and Nathan Williams.
Louisville (men 0-1, women 2-0) will travel to Morgantown from Pitt, who it swims against on Friday night. The season the Cardinal men have lost to Tennessee, while the women defeated Tennessee and Miami (Ohio).
Last season the Mountaineers defeated the Bearcats in Cincinnati, while both WVU teams were defeated at Louisville by the Cardinals.
