MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Through the generosity of Bob Reynolds, the Reynolds Family Academic Performance Center, located inside the Milan Puskar Center, is helping West Virginia University student-athletes become successful off the field as well as on it.

Last year, eight Mountaineers received national academic recognition while more than 100 West Virginia University student-athletes earned all-conference academic honors. Furthermore, the Athletic Director’s Academic Honor Roll exceeded 400 student-athletes once again for the 2008-09 academic calendar year.
And already this fall, senior football standout Reed Williams was one of 16 players from all divisions nationwide selected as semifinalists for the William V. Campbell Trophy, presented to college football’s most outstanding student-athlete.
As a semifinalist Williams earns the distinction of being a National Scholar-Athlete, making him one of six Mountaineer players to be recognized for this prestigious honor. The previous five were Oliver Luck (1981), Jeff Hostetler (1983), Eric de Groh (1998), Jeff Berk (2004) and Jay Henry (2006).
Each semifinalist will receive an $18,000 post-graduate scholarship, and the winner of the William V. Campbell Trophy will earn a $25,000 post-graduate scholarship.
Also, women’s soccer’s Chelsey Corroto was recently named to the ESPN The Magazine’s Academic All-District team with a 4.0 grade point average in journalism. Corroto is the 11th different player to earn academic all-district recognition in the 14-year history of the women’s soccer program.
Aside from Corroto, three football players, Eric Jobe, Josh Lider and Williams, have also earned All-District honors from ESPN The Magazine. Jobe has been a starter on the offensive line and has posted a 3.46 GPA in industrial engineering. Lider has handled the team's kickoff duties and has an impressive 4.00 GPA in exercise physiology. Williams is in his third year as a starter at middle linebacker and ranks among the top five on the team in tackles. He sports a 3.86 GPA in finance and marketing.
Having a first-class facility such as the Reynolds Academic Performance Center makes future academic achievements by WVU student-athletes even more likely.
On Friday, Nov. 6, 2009 at 4:30 p.m., West Virginia University will officially dedicate the Reynolds Family Academic Performance Center during a brief ceremony that will take place adjacent to the academic center in the All-America Room.
Among those invited to attend the ceremony include the Mountaineer Athletic Club Development Council, the WVU Foundation Board of Directors and Mountaineer Athletic Club All-American Society members.
Those scheduled to make remarks include West Virginia University President Dr. James P. Clements, Director of Athletics Ed Pastilong, WVU Foundation President and CEO Wayne King and Reynolds.
Following the official dedication of the facility a reception will be held in the Hartley Club area.
