MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University selected player quotes from Tuesday interviews.
Tyler Bitancurt
On kicking off for the first time at the USF game
“Right after I kicked the field goal, coach asked me right then if I wanted to kick off and of course I said ‘Yeah.’”
How much practice did you have kicking off before USF
“I would every now and then, but definitely not as much as I would have if I was the starting kicker. I’ve been practicing much more now, instead of just once a week like I had been.”
On resting his leg
“I can only practice kicking so much without running down my leg. I’ll have to start doing less field goal reps now that I’m practicing kick offs, but I’m confident that I can control it and I’ll be ready when they need me again.”
Robert Sands
On rebounding after their loss
“We know that we have to win the rest of our games and dominate our opponents to get back on track and into the BCS.”
“All of our goals still remain on the table and we still have a chance to tie the BIG EAST, we just have to win now. We’re just going to have to go out there to play Mountaineer football and dominate both sides of the ball.”
On coach Stewart’s feelings about the USF game
“Coach doesn’t want us to come down on each other and say it was (Keith) Tandy’s fault because it wasn’t just one person’s fault. There were other people on that field and we didn’t put enough pressure on the quarterback for that happen to Tandy. He doesn’t want us to be pointers, he wants us to be ‘I’ guys and that’s what we’re going to be. We just need to come together and win the rest of these games.”
Julian Miller
On going up against a small running back
“It can be hard at times but for the most part, you worry about getting tackles and blocks. Even if there is a little guy running the ball, it’s just a matter of you and him. Speed on speed.”
On the quarterbacks playing again after injury
“It seems like they’re more shaky in the pocket and they’re not as comfortable as they were before the injury. On the other hand, now they’re playing like they have something to prove and making plays that they usually don’t make.”
On getting back on track mentally after a loss
“We watch the films and see what went wrong, but our heads are cleared by Sunday so that on Monday we focus on preparing for our next opponent.”
Tyler Urban
On USF loss
“It happened and it’s over with now, so all we can do is build on it and make it through the BIG EAST. It’s another round where we have to focus on this game only and we can’t look again to the rest of the BIG EAST. We all know that this is a must win game. We have to win it if we want to get back on course.”
