Volleyball: Evans Named All-BIG EAST

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University junior middle blocker Lauren Evans earned all-BIG EAST second team honors, announced by the conference office.
“We are very happy for Lauren and that she was chosen,” coach Veronica Hammersmith says. “She made an impact on our team and was a major part of why we had the success we did this year.”
The Canyon Lake, Calif., native finished the season leading the Mountaineers in three categories, including kills (270), service aces (37) and total blocks (121).
She was named to the all-tournament team in three of four tournaments this fall, as was named MVP at the WVU Invitational, where she led with 55 kills and a .339 hitting percentage, while also posting 16 blocks and a team high eight service aces.
The Mountaineers finished the 2009 season with a 17-13, 6-8 record the best finished they have seen since the 2004 season.
