Diving: West Virginia Starts Invite Strong

MORGANTOWN, W.VA. - The West Virginia University men's and women's diving teams completed day one of the Terrapin Cup Invitational in College Park, Md., with great success on both boards.
“I'm very pleased with all of the diving performances,” coach Liza Marianni said. “Ashley, Brandon and Matt placed very well in a tough competition and Bethaney, Brian and Ethan experienced their first big invitational and handled it very well.”
Seniors Ashley Malik and Bethaney Perna each dove off the 1-meter board, where Malik finished in fifth place with a score of 218.35. Malik improved three places from her eighth place preliminary round finish. Perna finished with a score of 122.95 for 20th place.
For the men, senior Brandon Robinson finished fifth with a score of 276.40, while sophomore Matt O'Neill's score of 245.60 landed him a seventh-place finish. Robinson and O'Neill finished second and seventh, respectively, in the preliminary round.
Freshmen Ethan Robinson and Brian Drake also dove for the men with Robinson placing 12th behind a score of 193.25 and Drake finishing 17th with 152.95 points.
The women will be on the 3-meter board and the men on the 1-meter starting at 9 a.m. tomorrow morning to wrap up the invitational. Results can be followed live at www.umterps.com.
