WVU Set For NCAA Round Two

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The West Virginia women’s soccer team resumes NCAA Championship play with a second-round match against 14th-ranked Wake Forest on Sunday, Nov. 15, in Winston-Salem, N.C. Kickoff at W. Dennie Spry Stadium is scheduled for 1 p.m.
Wake Forest is serving as one of 16 host schools for the first and second rounds of the national tournament. Tomorrow’s match marks the eighth-straight contest away from Morgantown for the Mountaineers – a program record.
The Mountaineers defeated Loyola University Maryland, 2-0, to advance to the NCAA second round for the seventh time in 10 years. The Demon Deacons posted a 2-0 win over Kennesaw State in NCAA first-round action.
West Virginia owns a record of 10-6-6 on the season, while Wake Forest sports a record of 14-5-2. The Mountaineers have participated in the last 10 NCAA tournaments, while the Demon Deacons have competed in 14-straight NCAA tournaments.
Wake Forest owns a 1-0 lead in the all-time series – a 2-1 win in Morgantown during the 2007 regular season. The Deacs are the eighth Top 25 opponent WVU has faced this season. West Virginia is 3-3-1 in those matches.
Seven BIG EAST teams made this year’s NCAA tournament and WVU is one of four conference teams still alive in the NCAA Round of 32. A BIG EAST team has advanced to the College Cup 10 times in the past 14 years.
Third round games will be played at on-campus sites on Nov. 20, 21 or 22. Quarterfinal matches will be played on Nov. 27, 28 or 29. Times will be announced. The 28th annual 64-team NCAA Women’s College Cup will be played Dec. 4 and 6 at Texas A&M, in College Station, Texas.
