MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia women’s soccer player Carolyn Blank was named to TopDrawerSoccer’s Team of the Season today. The All-American midfielder earned third-team honors, and was named to the first team a year ago.
A second team All-American in 2008, Blank has totaled seven points this season in leading the Mountaineers to their 10th-straight NCAA tournament appearance. A three-time all-BIG EAST honoree, she has guided the 2009 Mountaineers to 12 shutouts as a defensive center midfielder.
A Toms River, N.J., native, Blank has started every match of her career, totaling 90 starts for the Old Gold and Blue. The Hermann Trophy candidate and two-time team captain has started more matches than any player in program history. Blank was recently named a first team all-BIG EAST selection for the second-straight season.
TopDrawerSoccer honors 33 players in three 11-person teams in all of Division I soccer for its version of national All-America recognition. Freshmen are not eligible for the Team of the Season, only a 24-player all-Rookie team.
Blank and the Mountaineers open up NCAA Championship play with a first-round match against Loyola University Maryland on Friday, Nov. 13, at W. Dennie Spry Stadium in Winston-Salem, N.C. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
