MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University gymnastics team will again volunteer at the Light the Night Walk benefiting the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society on Saturday, Oct. 10, at the WVU Coliseum.
This marks the third-straight year that the Mountaineers have worked with the society. While at the walk, the team works closely with young survivors, patients and family members of those afflicted with the diseases at the carnival-themed pre-walk celebration, set to begin at 5:30 p.m. The walk will follow at 7:30 p.m.
“Volunteering at Light the Night is a great opportunity for our team to get involved with the Morgantown community,” says senior Ashley Wilson. “We really enjoy this event every year. It’s nice to see so many other volunteers come out and support a great cause.”
“We have been working with the society for three years now, and as a team we not only enjoy the atmosphere, but have fun working with the young kids that come out to the Walk,” senior Shelly Purkat says.
Participants at the night Walk carry softly-lighted balloons in remembrance of both cancer survivors and loved ones. The Walk will help raise funds to find a cure for leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma and Hodgkin’s Disease, and to improve the quality of life of patients and their families.
