MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University tennis team will continue fall play with a trip to Toledo, Ohio, for the Toledo Rocket Invitational on Friday, Oct. 9-10.
Other teams competing will be Toledo, Cleveland State and Illinois-Chicago.
“The teams we will be competing against are within the top 75,” coach Marc Walters says. “It will be interesting to see how well we can stack up against them.”
Action will begin Friday at noon with the singles competition. Redshirt junior Monique Burton will be back in the No. 1 singles spot, followed by No. 2, freshman Emily Mathis, who reached the flight ‘B’ finals in last weekend’s Queen City Invitational.
Also competing in the singles competition are senior Stephanie LaFortune, junior Ashley Pilsbury and sophomores Kathryn Haught and Veronica Cardenas.
The doubles competition will consist of Burton and LaFortune in flight ‘A’ along with last weekend’s flight ‘B’ title winners, Mathis and Cardenas back in the flight ‘B’ competition.
The flight ‘C’ doubles competition will feature Pilsbury and senior Gabriela Blaskovicova as a pair, followed by freshman Liv Pettersson and sophomore Catie Wickline.
