Men's Basketball: Mitchell Leads Gold

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Casey Mitchell scored 21 points to lead the Blue to a 74-69 victory over the Gold in a split squad scrimmage Saturday afternoon at the WVU Coliseum.
Mitchell, a 6-foot-4, 225-pound junior guard, was 8 of 16 shooting including 3 of 7 from 3 to lead the Blue.
Darryl Bryant also played well for the Blue, scoring 18 points on 6 of 8 shooting while handing out a game-high seven assists.
Sophomore forward Kevin Jones was the high point-man for the Gold with 20 points on 9 of 15 shooting. He also grabbed a scrimmage-best 13 rebounds. Da’Sean Butler added 17 points and Devin Ebanks scored 15 for the Gold.
The starting five for the Blue team was Mitchell, Bryant, Wellington Smith, John Flowers and Deniz Kilicli.
The lineup for the Gold team was Butler, Ebanks, Cam Thoroughman, Jones and Dalton Pepper.
Pepper (12), Flowers (11) and Kilicli (10) also scored double figures.
Guard Joe Mazzulla did not play in the scrimmage.
Eighth-ranked West Virginia will play Mountain State in an exhibition game next Sunday, Nov. 8, at the WVU Coliseum at 1 p.m.
The regular season begins on Nov. 15 against Loyola at the WVU Coliseum.
