MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University women’s soccer players Chelsey Corroto has been named to ESPN The Magazine’s Academic All-District second team announced today by College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) officials.
Corroto, a journalism major with a 4.0 GPA, is one of only 23 student-athletes to earn honors in the University Division of District 2. District 2 covers all universities in Delaware, District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
“We have great academic support for our student-athletes and Chelsey takes her academics very seriously,” says coach Nikki Izzo-Brown. “We are so happy for Chelsey because we know how hard she works on and off the field.”
A sophomore from Hilliard, Ohio, Corroto has played in every match this season at forward. She earned her first collegiate start against No. 8 Notre Dame on Oct. 2 and has started each of the last eight contests. Corroto has tallied one goal (vs. Duquesne) and one assist (vs. Notre Dame) on the season.
To qualify for the all-academic teams, student-athletes must have a minimum GPA of 3.30. Student-athletes are nominated by their respective sports information directors and are voted on by members of CoSIDA.
Corroto is the 11th different player in program history to earn CoSIDA Academic All-District honors.
The Mountaineers return to action with a BIG EAST quarterfinal match on Sunday, Nov. 1, against ninth-ranked Rutgers in Piscataway, N.J.
