Football: Devine, Austin Honored by Big East

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - West Virginia football players Noel Devine and Tavon Austin have been recgonized by the Big East for their efforts in WVU's 28-24 victory over Connecticut last Saturday.
Devine was named the conference offensive player of the week after compiling 178 yards on 23 carries with one touchdown. He tallied the game-winning score on a 56-yard run with 2:10 left in the fourth quarter to elevate the Mountaineers to a 6-1 (2-0) record.
Devine registered his fifth 100-yard game of the season and enters this week’s game at USF ranked third nationally at 130.3 yards per game.
Austin earned Big East special teams player of the week honors when he returned the opening kickoff 98 yards for a score. The Baltimore, Md., native finished with 118 yards on two kickoff returns and became the first WVU player to score on a kickoff return since Darius Reynaud had a 96-yard TD against Maryland on Sept. 14, 2006.
Austin also became the first Mountaineer to score on the opening kickoff since Nate Terry went 100 yards to begin the game against Temple on Nov. 15, 1997.
