Tennis: LaFortune Falls Short of Qualifying

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University tennis player Stephanie LaFortune fell short of qualifying in singles competition today at the ITA Regionals in Blacksburg, Va.
LaFortune started the day off with a victory over Pitt's Shannon Benic in a 6-3, 6-1 match, which was WVU's first win at Regionals in over five years. She had a good showing in her second match, but was defeated 6-2, 6-2, by Virginia Tech's Emily Lauten.
Play will continue on Friday, Oct. 23, at 9 a.m., with the doubles competition, as Lafortune and redshirt junior Monique Burton will compete for the Mountaineers. Action will lead into singles competition at 3 p.m., where Burton will compete for a qualifying spot.
