MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University volleyball team is set to travel to the Fitzgerald Field House in Pittsburgh, Pa., for a conference match against “Backyard Brawl” rival Pitt on Friday, Oct. 31, at 7 p.m.
The Mountaineers are 13-10, 3-5 on the season, after winning their second-straight conference match of the season, in a 3-0 victory over DePaul on Saturday. WVU also faced Notre Dame on Sunday. The Fighting Irish remained undefeated in the conference as it defeated the Mountaineers 3-0.
Junior Lauren Evans had a good weekend with 20 kills and .375 hitting percentage, while also adding eight blocks. In the win over DePaul, Evans had a season-high hitting percentage with a .625 mark off 11 kills. Sophomore setter Kari Post also played well over the weekend, averaging 10.33 assists per set and tallying 62 in two matches.
The Panthers earned their eighth shut-out of the season on Sunday, after they defeated DePaul in a 3-0 match. Junior Amy Town led Pitt with 13 kills, while posting a season-best .722 hitting clip.
WVU is looking to avenge last season’s 1-3 loss to the Panthers in Morgantown.
