Basketball: Mountaineer Madness Set for Friday

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University will tip off the 2009-10 men’s and women’s basketball seasons with Mountaineer Madness, presented by Coke Zero, on Friday, Oct. 16, at 8:30 p.m. at the WVU Coliseum.
Admission to the event is free with an autograph session with both team’s players at the Green and Gold Gates beginning at 6:30 p.m. and ending at 8 p.m. Players signing autographs at the Green Gate include Da’Sean Butler, Liz Repella, Wellington Smith and Vanessa House. Players signing autographs at the Gold gate include Sarah Miles, Devin Ebanks, Madina Ali and Joe Mazzulla.
A slam dunk contest, a skit performed by the women’s basketball team, a free throw shooting contest featuring former Mountaineer players and scrimmages by both teams will highlight the Mountaineer Madness festivities. The men’s team will also unveil a new uniform that will give it four different combinations for this season.
Former players expected to be on hand include Warren Baker, Jay Jacobs, David Ligouri, Kevin Pittsnogle, Maurice Robinson, Lester Rowe, Bill Ryczaj, Brent Solheim, Jarrod West, Georgeann Wells, the first collegiate women’s player to ever dunk in a game, and Josh Yeager.
Fans are encouraged to attend the night’s opening event when the Mountaineer volleyball team takes on DePaul in a BIG EAST matchup at 6 p.m. at the Coliseum.
