(3:48 pm) Noel Devine’s 11-yard touchdown reception to start the scoring at Syracuse was his first touchdown reception as a Mountaineer.
Reed Williams led WVU in tackles last season against Marshall with 11. Reed also recorded two tackles for losses.
Jarrett Brown and Noel Devine have combined to produce 403 of West Virginia’s 449 yards of total offense per game.
Syracuse coach Doug Marrone has already named Greg Paulus his starting quarterback in the Orange’s next game against Akron.
Marshall safety Ashton Hall broke Randy Moss’ vertical jump record of 43 inches with a leap of 44 inches.
Josh Taylor’s interception at Syracuse marked the second straight time a WVU defensive lineman intercepted a pass at the Carrier Dome. Keilen Dykes pilfered a pass in the 2007 visit.
West Virginia leads the Big East in rushing, punting, third-down conversions, and field goals. The Mountaineers are second in total offense, rushing defense, pass offense, punt return, field goals, and time of possession.
Fullback Ryan Clarke is averaging a touchdown every four carries.
West Virginia has outscored Marshall by an average of 40-17 since the series was resumed in 1997.
Friday’s Mountaineer Madness will feature a host of former WVU players returning to sign autographs and compete in a free throw shooting contest. There will be an autograph session up on the concourse level during Friday night’s volleyball match before the festivities begin at 8:30 pm.
